Rosen has dedicated herself to fighting drug use and furthering healthcare in the state of Minnesota. With a deep background in agriculture\, including a degree in Agronomy\, Senator Rosen serves as a “strong voice for rural Minnesota.” Following the conclusion of her current term\, Rosen plans to retire from the Senate. Lake is Carlton County’s first-ever female sheriff. A longtime Carlton County resident\, Lake has been in law enforcement for over 30 years. Currently\, she serves as the county sheriff. Elected in 2006\, Lake is the county’s first-ever female sheriff and the second female sheriff in Minnesota. Serving in various positions for different companies\, Julie knows the mining industry well. Presently\, she is the Executive Director of Mining Minnesota. In addition to her career path\, Julie’s leadership in the community extends into other positions. As a French Town Board Supervisor\, she actively volunteers at and organizes events. Specifically\, as a part of this role\, Julie spends a lot of her time overseeing the road program. Thus\, at these meetings\, women from various public service backgrounds will discuss their paths to leadership and the barriers they’ve overcome. Our goal is to facilitate a mentorship environment that provides you with encouragement and support in your own leadership journey. \n  \nTarryl Clark\nTarryl Clark is an experienced public official\, formally working with Minnesota State Senators from District 15. At current\, she serves as a county commissioner for the First District of Minnesota. Clark is active on a variety of boards and committees as a part of her position. Considering her prior involvement in family and children’s programs\, it’s no surprise that she continues to work in those areas. Namely\, the Coalition Advancing Healthy Families Joint Powers Board. Besides that\, Clark also works on boards and committees focused on issues like human services and invasive aquatic species. \nSheila Kiscaden\nAlso a former Minnesota State Senator (District 30)\, Sheila Kiscaden has many years of experience in public service. Presently\, she is on the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners. In view of her prior experience as a Senator\, her policy interest and expertise have led to her serving on a variety of state commissions and task forces. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our Civic Mentorship Network “Learn About It” meetings!\nU.S. Senate and State Attorney General: Heidi Heitkamp\nWomen belong in leadership positions\, including you. We at 100 Rural Women want to join you in your journey as you pursue public service positions. Specifically\, providing you with the necessary resources for support. And the most valuable resources are the very women who are making a difference in their communities. Thus\, at these meetings\, women from various public service backgrounds will discuss their paths to leadership and the barriers they’ve overcome. Our goal is to facilitate a mentorship environment that provides you with encouragement and support in your own leadership journey. \n  \nWe will be hosting Heidi Heitkamp on Thursday\, September 15th at 7 AM CT. Heidi is a former U.S. Senator and State Attorney General. Heidi actively serves as a champion for the North Dakotan people. As the Attorney General\, she is remembered for her leadership in the state’s legal efforts to seek damages from tobacco companies. In a similar fashion\, Heidi tackled a number of welfare issues as a U.S. Senator. These issues include but are not limited to affordable health care and human trafficking. Now that Heidi no longer serves in the U.S. Senate or as Attorney General\, she focuses a lot of her attention on the One Country Project. SUMMARY:September Book Club - In Spite of Heroin
DESCRIPTION:This month we will be reading In Spite of Heroin by Dana Chase! \nRegister for our Book Club! \nBook synopsis\nAn idyllic upbringing\, unconditional love\, and the serenity of the Heartland USA were not enough to shield this close-knit family from heroin. In her moving\, ultimately hopeful narrative of struggle and redemption\, Dana Chase writes unsparingly of how she survived the shock of learning that her beautiful identical twin sons had become heroin addicts and the terror that unfolded as a result. \nChase and her husband returned to North Dakota in 1993 when their twins were ten months old to give them the same benefits she had as a child. But steadfast family values\, and the manageable pace of North Dakota did not work their charm this time around. By the time the boys were twenty they were drug dealers\, heroin addicts\, and felons. \nThis family’s catastrophic status quo included overdoses\, attempted suicide\, court-mandated stays at rehab centers\, and countless cycles of incarceration\, including a federal indictment\, none of which had been anywhere near Chase’s maternal radar. Chase had lived her entire adult life believing ‘what you think about\, you bring about.’ In spite of her innate optimism she wondered… if I wasn’t thinking about it\, how’d I bring it about? \nThis is a cautionary tale that delivers a blunt impact of reality to any parent who believes ‘this can’t happen to our family’. No equipment or gear necessary\, just join in comfy clothes and Alisa will lead you through the rest. \nClass description\nFeel the benefits of linking your breath with movement. We will explore well-rounded sequences that build core strength\, and increase balance and flexibility. Each class will include an opening meditation\, options for practicing comfortably at your own pace\, and an ending relaxation. This class is appropriate for all levels.
