SUMMARY:Webinar: The Civic Mentorship Network Pilot Project Findings
DESCRIPTION:Register HERE \nThis past summer 100 Rural Women conducted the Civic Mentorship Network Pilot Project. \nThe Civic Mentorship Network Pilot Project was comprised of rural civic leaders who served as mentors for new women pursuing public service and leadership positions. This network provided a coordinated method for aspiring leaders to make person-to-person connections that give access to resources that are valuable to enduring success. At 100 Rural Women\, we find that success in engaging and mentoring more rural women to serve in public service leadership roles is essential to keeping our democracy strong.  \nOur graduate student Jasmine Terry and intern Alexis Lhotka will take us through the project\, the findings\, and what we hope to do with it! \nMore Info here \nWe are excited to see you on November 14th at 6 pm CST!

SUMMARY:Reflections from the Polish-Ukrainian Border with Bernadine Joselyn
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to hear from Bernadine Joselyn who just spent three weeks at the Polish-Ukrainian border welcoming and processing evacuees fleeing Russia’s war with Ukraine. \n \nBernadine\, who is director of Public Policy and Engagement at Blandin Foundation\, lived and worked in Russia 20 years ago with the U.S. Foreign Service and other international development organizations\, and now lives in Grand Rapids\, MN with her Ukrainian husband. Bernadine heard about the opportunity to help and quickly found herself in the evacuee center at Korcwoza\, about 20 kilometers from the actual border; it was a huge wholesale warehouse space\, repurposed for the evacuees. Volunteers from all over the world had come to help. Some were organized with groups such as Red Cross of Doctors without Borders; some came without affiliation. With Ukrainian men between the ages of 16 and 60 forbidden from leaving the country\, the evacuees were overwhelmingly women and children. Some had left with nothing but the clothes on their back. \nBernadine’s mission was to make them safe\, meet their immediate needs (food\, clothing\, SIM cards) and to help them find a place to stay. Bernadine will tell us about the process\, the people and the politics as well as how we can help. You can learn more about her trip from her recent article in the Women’s Press.   \nResources: How to host Ukrainian refugees: US Department of Homeland Security.  dhs.gov/ukraine.   We Are Light- formerly American Refugee Committee\, based in MN is Coordinating humanitarian relief on the ground. SUMMARY:Bootstrapping Equity for Food Access
DESCRIPTION:Many times\, the stories shared about Rural Women leading grassroots community initiatives are an understatement of the challenges faced in building a more equitable world. This session covers what it’s been like for Dani Pieratos\, an Indigenous female entrepreneur\, and her commitment to support the food sovereignty movement at the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa where she is a tribal member living on the Lake Vermilion Reservation in northeastern Minnesota. \nBootstrapping is a term for early businesses where owners commit their personal time and energy mostly out-of-pocket. As a low-income mother of two\, keeping pace with opportunity has been tough. Dani will share personal & professional anecdotes to highlight what many of us face in the fight for equity\, all from her focal point of localizing food systems to improve healthy food access. Her journey highlights moments of desperation\, surrender\, patience\, love\, trust and resourcefulness. Join us to hear an expressive\, personal testimony of the nonlinear changemaking process for the brighter futures we all seek. \nWe hope this session will mutually inspire Rural Women to ask for what is needed and ask for what is deserved for everyone and everything we are fighting for. \nRegister for our 2/16 Breakfast Club Webinar!
